Battersea’s rising star Denis Dupuis racked up a stunning 8.5/9 this weekend to make it a hat-trick of club juniors into the UK Chess Challenge Terafinal Grand Final.
The Wilson’s School pupil, who won the nationwide event as an u10 in 2019, dominated the Challengers Under 12s qualifier from start to finish.
Denis joins Emils Steiners and university-bound Viktor Stoyanov, who had already made it through, among the 60 players across all age groups competing the final at Blenheim Palace on October 9 and 10. You can see Denis’s results here.
Two other up-and-coming Battersea juniors put in hugely impressive performances, but missed out by a whisker.
In the Under 14s, Luca Buanne finished joint-second, stayed undefeated and beat the winner of the tournament – but lost out on a tiebreaker. You can see Luca’s results here.
Alex Gao, who recently joined the club, also had a super-strong tournament. He finished joint-third in the u8 category and came close with an impressive 6.5/9. You can view Alex’s results here.
