Congratulations to Battersea’s brilliant first-team skip Midhun Unnikrishnan who has shared first place in the Major Open at the British Chess Championships in Torquay.
The former Imperial College pupil, recently crowned Club Champion, scored 7/9 despite not being paired for rounds 1 and 3 and level with Wakefield’s Peter Shaw.

Midhun wasn’t the only Battersea player competing at the British. Gregg Hutchence also lined up in the Major Open, scoring 2.5.
Meanwhile, in the Open section 19-year-old university student Viktor Stoyanov finished with 4/9 which included a win over WGM Sheila Jackson.
