He’s already staged perhaps the most riotous night of chess we’ve ever seen at Battersea.
But now the world famous Ginger GM Simon Williams is back – and this time he’s bringing his mate.
Simon Says talk and blitz battle
The 37-year-old YouTube star is holding a “Simon Says” talk with long-time friend and business partner IM Simon Ansell on June 13 from 7.30pm.
Simon and Simon will answer anything on the game and what it’s like being a professional player – so come armed with questions.
Then straight after both will play in the second Battersea Blitz tourny.
You may remember, the hugely successful night before Christmas when 30ish players battled it out at our venue.
The 3m Swiss was won by American YouTube star, and Chessable head honcho, John Bartholomew after an epic three-match final against Simon.
The night will be free, and open to members and non-members. For more information email updates@batterseachessclub.org.uk
New Summer League
Most importantly, the night will launch an exciting new event to keep you chess fans interested this summer.
The Summer Chess League will kick off in July and August at the Battersea Labour Club.
This is a collaboration between Battersea and Hammersmith Chess Club, with support from Streatham & Brixton and the British Bangla Chess Association.
Here are the details:
- – At least 6 teams
- – Time controls: 60+30s
- – No adjournments
- – All games ECF graded
- – Matches on Tuesdays
- – All games at Battersea
The idea is to create a relaxed, friendly atmosphere where players can get in some games over the summer
Further details are being finalised, but Hammersmith is putting forward two teams and all other London clubs are invited to take part.
