When it rains it pours – and that was certainly the case for Your Correspondent on a rain-soaked and stormy evening on Tuesday.
If travelling north of the river to see my beloved Spurs smashed 7-2 by Bayern Munich was not misery enough, I was told my roof at home had been leaking.
But much, much worse news was to come.
Shortly after 10 pm, Aldo Camilleri informed me the Spurs defence and my roof were not the only things that were leaky that night.
Back at base-camp our high-strength first-team side for the first match of the new season had slumped against the ballers from Wimbledon.
Battersea 1, who finished runners-up last season, went down 4.5-5-5 to an SW17 side that served up a series of aces.

Midhun Unnikrishnan‘s team fielded nine out of 10 players graded over 200, including new IM Adam C Taylor. It was possibly the strongest Battersea side ever assembled.
But a spirited Wimbledon side overcame the odds to rack up five wins – four of which were over significantly higher graded opposition.
Battersea will bounce back.
