Battersea 1 have stayed up in London League 1 for the second successive season. They survived a nervous wait until after their season had ended. If Mushrooms 1 had defeated Richmond and Twickenham 1 in their final game of the season, they would have survived at Battersea’s expense.
What had happened in Richmond’s previous match hardly inspired confidence – unable to field a team, they had defaulted on all boards.
But fortunately they were able to come out in force for the final match with a full team including three 200+ plus players and some of those who had come up from their strong junior system. They put paid to Mushrooms’ chances of survival with a convincing 7.5-4.5 victory.
Mushrooms scored the same number of match points as Battersea but had a much lower game points tally – our first team had had a number of narrow losses during the season, whereas Mushrooms had had a number of more convincing defeats.
This seals a successful season overall for Battersea’s teams – one championship win, two promotions and no relegations.
