Battersea Chess Club met online for the first time in its 135-year history last night as it battles to outlive the COVID-19 pandemic.
The club’s first online tournament was held on Lichess.org and 17 members with an average rating of 1761 took part playing a total of 95 games.
As members get used to the format, we are hoping that number will increase significantly.
The Battersea Members Arena 5m +5s tournament was won by a mysterious member called ‘battybadger’ – later unmasked as Alex Makarov.
He/she was followed by Batterseabecks (Chris Beckett) and aaddaamm (Adam Bukojemski).
