Battersea’s juniors performed highly impressively at the British Championships in Hull (pictured above), which finished today.
Koby Kalavannan scored 5/9 in the Championship itself, beating 2400+ rated FM Joseph McPhillips and drawing with former winner GM Jonathan Hawkins, GM Peter Wells and IMs Richard Palliser and Jovanka Houska, finishing with a 2426 performance overall.
Viktor Stoyanov qualified for next year’s Championship with a mighty 2= (7/9), half a point from victory, in the Major Open.
Our recent acquisition, Shreyas Royal started with a flourish – 4 points from the first 5 games – in the same tournament, and finished with a highly creditable 5.5/9.
Boris Stoyanov finished 5= in the Under 10 with 4.5/6 and got 3.5/6 in the Under 11. Denis Dupuis was in the top ten in the Under 9 with 4/6.
Our one adult player who made the trip up north, Tim Allen, got 2/5 in the weekend and weekday under-120s.
It’s not so long ago that Battersea had no junior players. These results make the future look very bright for the club!
