Blair Connell’s star-studded Battersea Horses cleared the final hurdle to race into the 4NCL play-offs last night.
The team, competing in the online league’s top division, sent Arkell’s Angels straight to hell with a thumping 3-1.
GM Simon Williams drew with his friend GM Keith Arkell on board 1 while our Icelandic IM Torbjorn Ringdal Hansen stayed cool to win on board 2.

GM Bragi Thorfinnsson, another one of Simon’s Icelandic contacts, drew on board three while Adam Bukojemski scored on board 4.
The Horses now go through to the quarter-final stage to be played on June 16.
Meanwhile, Battersea’s two other teams finished the season without making it through.
The Battersea Howitzers, a team of juniors captained by GM David Howell, finished 5th in their Division 4 group.
In Division 5, Battersea Pawnbreakers captained by Tim Valentine finished 30th in a 78-team Swiss tournament.
