Battersea Chess Club is entering four teams in this year’s Summer Chess League, we can confirm.

The league, which has its launch night on June 19 before round kicks of a week later, is back for its second year.

We putting in two teams in the Open, one in the Average Under 150 and one in the Average Under 120 divisions.

In total, there are 28 teams taking part – that’s up from just 6 last year!

Here are our entries:

1. Battersea Undesirables

Division: U150 Average Section

Led by Howard Groves, the team name derives from US President Donald Trump’s undesirable description of Battersea.

Clearly, Don’s never been to the Battersea Labour Club though.

2. The Dogs of Battersea

Division: OPEN Section

Malcolm Dancy‘s team are nothing like fluffy pets at Battersea Cats and Dogs Home. This lot are a team of snarling, biting dogs of war.

You know, the kind you find in Battersea.

3. The Morphy Richards

Division: U120 Average Section

This lot are Richard Murphy‘s team and they are entering division 3.

But like the Murphy, they’re not bitter.

4. Battersea Horses

Division: OPEN Section

And finally, our thoroughbreds fighting it out in division 1 are the crazy horses (waaah, waaah). Blair Connell is a big Osmonds fan so decided to name his team the Horses.

Let’s hope they don’t buckle.
