Battersea players picked up their benefit checks last night as two of our teams doled out a thrashing to the DHSS.
Both our second team and our U125 Minor team continued their fine form to return with maximum points despite being heavily-outgraded in both matches.
Malcolm Dancy‘s London Chess League division 3 team convincingly won 5.5-3.5, with one game adjourned.
Meanwhile, Leon Watson‘s division 6 team were 3.5-0.5 victors over a DHSS side that defaulted on one board.
In the second team match, Ben Franklin‘s win perhaps was the pick of the results. He beat an opponent rated 185 – a full 40 points higher than him.
There was also an excellent draw for Rafael Del Valle Domenech (177) who drew against an opponent rated 202.
And there were wins for Joe Skielnik, Emil Todorow and Malcolm Dancy who all faced higher rated opponents, and on board 10 Arnold Hunt.
In the Minor team match, Battersea started one-up after Gregg Hutchence‘s opponent couldn’t make it because of the snow.
Your correspondent (122) won on board 1 against an opponent rated 131 with a nice mating pattern.
Tim Allen on board 2 shared the point after a nice pin left his higher rated opponent with no option but to offer a draw.
Finally, the currently ungraded Joe Sullivan had a nice endgame win against an opponent rated 109.
Joe’s opponent eventually blundered under the pressure but had been forced into a losing position anyway.
Full details, as usual, will be posted on the London Chess League website.
