Battersea’s second and third teams in the Central London Chess League had contrasting results last Thursday.
Battersea 2 drew against a strong HMC 1 side to go top of the league while Battersea 3 in the second division took a tonking from West London.
There were two debuts for the club, welcome David Blackwell and James Humphries.
Here are the captains’ reports:
Top of the league
A good result for the second team on Thursday night, writes JOE SKIELNIK:
which puts us back on top of the table! (for the moment).
Rafa and Arnold both came within a whisker of drawing their games but the clock intervened.
West are best
There was a battling performance, but a chastening result in the opening third team fixture of the Central London League season on Thursday night, writes HOWARD GROVES.
Visitors West London comfortably out-graded us on all boards, and duly converted this advantage despite our brave efforts.
It was though pleasing to see David and James make their competitive debuts for the club, and then remain behind to watch the conclusion of both this match and the relatively successful second team display across the room!
