Speed demon Adam Bukojemski crushed GM Luke McShane in 25 moves as Battersea players had another brilliant weekend.
Adam modestly claimed he was “kinda lucky” as he dispatched the Super GM, often described as the world’s best amateur, at The De Montford Bell Kings Place Chess Festival.
We don’t think so.
Meanwhile, Denis Dupuis continued his meteoric rise by hitting 6/6 to win the U145 section while fellow junior Boris Stoyanov also had a strong showing with 4/6.
But back to Adam… here’s the game:
Overall Adam had a hugely-impressive tournament, finishing with 4.5/6 and losing only to the eventual winner GM David Howell.
He produced a rating performance of 2488, meaning his Rapidplay rating is now over 2300.
In the final round, GM Howell, who himself turned out for Battersea last season, was up against another friend of the club who has also played for us, GM Simon Williams.
GM Howell won that – and the tournament – as the Ginger GM ended with 4.5/6.
Also playing in the Open with Battersea interest were IM Gavin Wall (3.5/6), Viktor Stoyanov (3/6), Jacques Tivillier and young Shreyas Royal (2.5/6).
But not everyone left unscathed.
Here’s what Jacques had a say afterwards:
Had an awesome time today @ the Kings place rapid. Met some more great people!
However…
We all have chess days like these! Ive been on a storming run in recent tournaments today was a step too far. Sometimes the Tiger gets mauled!#lickingmywounds#Illbeback #Nevergiveup
