Chess and beer, beer and chess. The two go together like fish and chips and Thelma and Louise, don’t they?

Yes, they absolutely do. And that’s why Sambrook’s Brewery – you know the place where the lovely Wandle is made – has invited us to take part in an exciting new event on January 26.

The first Sambrook’s Chess-Up in a Brewery, a daytime challenge match against Hammersmith, will take place on Saturday, January 26, in the brewery’s taproom no less.

Sambrook’s is, of course, our local craft beer producer based in Yelverton Road.

The match will be a 14-a-side face-off and there may or may not be a few beers consumed. However, there will be plenty of juniors and juniors are welcome (so despite it being a brewery no drunkenness is allowed!).

Start time is to be announced but matches will take place between
1pm and 5pm. Games will be graded. The time control will be 75m+15s.

The parameters for the boards will be as follows:

  • Board 1&2 – 200ECF and above
  • Board 3&4 – 180-200
  • Board 5&6 – 160-180

  • Board 9&10 – 120-140
