Ever fancied representing your county?

As many of you may know, Battersea is affiliated to the Surrey County Chess Association.

That means our players are eligible to play for Surrey in the County Championships, run in the latter stages by the ECF.

As you can see from the map below teams are drawn from clubs covering a wide area with Battersea the northern-most.

In days of yore Battersea took an active part in the SCCA and competed in the Surrey Chess League.

However, several years ago we pulled out and since then fewer Battersea players, perhaps because we are a little departed and the distances involved, have made themselves available to Surrey.

Surrey have also found fielding teams increasingly difficult. So,this year they are appealing for new players to come forward.

Teams cover all levels so everyone should be able to find a place. And if the county does well it gets to the knockout stage, and potentially a big final.

If you fancy it I can highly recommend playing for Surrey. Matches take place on Saturday afternoons and may involve a bit of travel, but are well worth it.

Home matches usually take place in Cheam or Coulsdon and are easy to get to from Clapham Junction.
